Here is an actual worklog I just wrote...

User's Backup drive does not work.
Had user connect Backup drive to T41.
Had user look in My Computer - drive does not appear.
Had user connect Backup drive to other USB port - still nothing.
User does not have Backup drive connected to AC power.
User reports he does not even have a power cable for the Backup drive.
User then found the power cord after a brief search.
User connected the cord to the Backup drive - drive now works properly.

So the tech supervisor's away and I've been tapped to co-organise the techs to cover two shifts next week. I figure that to minimise hassle for people, we could split the five-day week into a two-day and a three-day block, assign people to one of the blocks, then swap them to the other block when we do the same thing in six weeks. This way, people only have to change their personal schedules once during the week, right?

Except my co-co-ordinator seems dead set on splitting the week into Monday-Wednesday-Friday and Tuesday-Thursday. Thus making all the techs alter their schedules at least four times that week, not to mention resetting alarm clocks and other electronica.

Am I nuts? Is he? Would YOU want to change your shift every day of the week?

overheard this lil call from a coworker.

picture this.
a category five hurricane is bearing down on houston currently.
there is an evacuation order.
people fleeing the city.
(a large company) has been evacuated, and all non essential services and servers have been shut down
SOMEONE, dont know if it was the VIP or the secretary or what, called.
but this was actually said during the course of that call
"Well VIP's NEED to get their EMAIL!"

as in, i dont care if there is a cat 5 hurricane about to obliterate houston, send someone in there to turn back on the mail server cause i'm IMPORTANT.

beyond that it's been the run of the mill "right click on "my documents"" --- "where is "my documents"'?" kinda stuff at this new job...
