come hell or hurricanes...
Sep. 21st, 2005 04:11 pmoverheard this lil call from a coworker.
picture this.
a category five hurricane is bearing down on houston currently.
there is an evacuation order.
people fleeing the city.
(a large company) has been evacuated, and all non essential services and servers have been shut down
SOMEONE, dont know if it was the VIP or the secretary or what, called.
but this was actually said during the course of that call
"Well VIP's NEED to get their EMAIL!"
as in, i dont care if there is a cat 5 hurricane about to obliterate houston, send someone in there to turn back on the mail server cause i'm IMPORTANT.
beyond that it's been the run of the mill "right click on "my documents"" --- "where is "my documents"'?" kinda stuff at this new job...

Date: 2005-09-21 09:30 pm (UTC)how are you doing!!!!
yup, started about 3 weeks ago, so far it hasn't been ANYTHING like my other tech support thing, which was answering phones for a local isp who was hell bent on delivering internet service to the most backwoods and inbred areas in america.
not to say i haven't had my share of the "where is the my documents folder" people, but at least so far everyone has known their right from their left ;)

Date: 2005-09-22 02:35 am (UTC)btw, course i've only been there a couple of weeks, but it seems much of any problems that may be in the helpdesk arise from the field, and call center, are just completely seperate, even tho technically they work for the same company as a team, yet there is no communication, no one knows anything about the other, agree? disagree?
i mean, with a little communication we each would know what would help the other better do their job faster and easier, right? wrong?

Date: 2005-09-21 09:34 pm (UTC)We were so pissed off from the heartless customers coming into chat wondering why they couldn't get through on the phones (The 800 number was blown out by sprint in that area) and why their internet was down, we created a pre fab for this stupid bitching about speeds.
I am sorry, as I am sure you know, hurricane Katrina has caused havoc in Florida and the gulf coast. Damage in excess of 100 billions has been done, hundreds of thousands of people have been left without homes, and tens of thousands of people have died. Still, millions remain without power and long term global economic consequences are inevitable. This issue is also causing the Internet in your area to be a little slower then usual. I really wish there was more I could do for you right this second.
I used this once - the person on the other end stopped bitching and was quiet for around 5 minutes before I said anything else.
