I just had four phone calls in less than ten minutes from the same woman. She doesn't have the software that I support, she has something else. Four times I've sent her to the main line for which I only have a five-digit extension. Four times I got yelled at because this woman was sent to the wrong place. The main operator's manager was unavailable. I have the urge to defenestrate something very large just to hear a loud breaking crunching noise.

Does anyone else's tech support department get dumped on with crap that no one else in the corporation knows what to do with?

oh yeah, sounds like a typical day at my job. We also have the problem of the main receptionist sending calls directly to a rep if the customer mentions a name. The policy is SUPPOSED to be everyone waits in the hold que for the first available. I know she's been told this many times. If a customer ask me for my extension I deny having one.

My company, we have a compny-wide phone list on the intranet. People look me up

I've been trying (with little success) to convince some of my users that they need to actually call the help desk and not me -- with only two of us here, they have a 50% chance of getting me. Plus, if I'm on a call, I tend to ignore my private line unless it's someone who I /really/ need to talk to.

Our receptionist just sends anyone who mentions 'computer' to the help desk, which means we get sales calls. A lot.

My phone system says 'press 1 for sales, 2 for tech support' but that's a bullshit lie. All the calls go to the same phones that all of us have. So a lot of times I'll answer the phone 'tech support' and people say wtf I pushed 1 for sales.

I usually tell them the phone system is being worked on or something, and might be a little flaky.

The I/T department at my company only recently got out of doing weird stuff like ordering carpeting for the office so yup!

Accounting is always shoving their "Account overdue", "Call about payment" shit onto my Company's support.
