Since there seems to be so many of us here....who all used to work for Earthlink? Or still does? In any location. Just a head count to satisfy my curiousity.
I worked in the Phoenix office for about a year and half before they closed us down.

I've never worked *FOR* Earthlink, but I did sell Earthlink accounts while working under contract with Sprint Long Distance for a while.

I used to work for MSPG/ELNK between the years of 98-01, the last two years spent working in the NOC, yelling at PST. Now that was a great job...

"So WHY is this POP down again?"
"Well, the equipment is in a bank building, and it's closed over the weekend."
"Then call someone and get them to open it."
"We tried, there's no one there."
"Alright, so you just want to let this number be down for THREE DAYS?!?! That's not acceptable. I want a plan for fixing this, and I want it now, and if I don't hear back from you in two hours, I'm calling your VP at... what... 3am his time? And telling him exactly what's going on... Why yes, I will hold for your supervisor."

Oh, believe me, if it's something that no one could fix, we would let it slide, as long as it was handled correctly, but at times like that example, when one of our customer numbers would be down for several days because of bad planning, and the techs on the other end's plan was to just say 'Sorry' and get off the phone as quickly as possible, then we were empowered to bring down the wrath of our customers unto those who were responsible.

Besides, they were PST, they never did anything right the entire time they were around. They weren't like DeltaCom, who actually had competent people who would actually FIX problems.

I have more of the Clerks attitude towards customers. That's probably why I never got promoted there, I think you have to care, lol.
I tried to care...but it's like swimming upstream at Earthlink, just pointless.

Yeah... I'm not sure I'd have cared if I was working there when it was ELNK. Luckily I did all my time in Support when it was still MSPG, and they actually cared more about the customers as a whole than the customers money. But, eh...

I work for Earthlink. What I find amusing is that although I've fixed thousands of customer issues when I worked in TS, my own home computer continues to get messed up. Regularly.

My husband swears that it must be something I'm doing, because the computer "worked just fine" before he gave it to me and bought a new one. I format and reinstall the OS when it gets too unfixable, but personally I think he wears them out (gamer) and then gives it to me for light use when he gets a hint that its starting to head off the deep end...

At work, they surprised me and provided a laptop unexpectedly (I'm an admin assistant) and I've had it for three months. I haven't had a single problem with it that couldn't be fixed with a reboot. I've had to remove some spyware occasionally, but that's just maintenance these days.

I used to work at the Alb outsourcer for a year and a half. Gah! Expected to make short call times with no tools and sups that didn't have a clue, sucked me arse. However my 6 month stint in email tech support rocked!

When I got laid off from the Phoenix center the outsource people offered me a job in vegas. I almost took it cause my parents live up there, but then I went up for a visit and actually took a look around the center.
No way in hell.

i don't blame you at all. I used to bitch about the Vegas people so much when I dealt with their calls and sups. What made me laugh is they tried to set up a Tier II department there and the I's couldn't even trouble shoot most basic problems. It was satisfying watching them fall flat on their face witrh that endevor.

I just couldn't do it. Even when I realized that I'd probably be the smartest person in the place and would be running it inside a year...I just couldn't do it. I remember how much we used to bitch about those dumbasses when we'd get their callbacks and I cringed at the idea of being one of them.
Plus that staggered shift BS..no way in hell.

They offered to transfer me there to help with the email team training. *shudder* I turned it down since I felt that our trainer should have been the one to do it. Besides once I met some of those techs I was sure I'd be throttling them for the stupidity that they exuded through email and over the phone. I actually got a few hot transfers from them. I threatened to stab one with sharp pointy sticks because it was an easy fix and he just couldn't grasp it. Whoa! Change the pop! Step one of the trouble shooting process. Yeesh!

I used to work for Mindspring who was bought out by Earthlink, and the founder Charles Brewer jumped ship when all things started to go to hell. Yes, I used to slave for that fucking place. Now, I know what it's like to run an ISP, and actually make the money that a technical support rep should make. ELNK fucked me long enough. I hope that one day that ship will burn in hell. And it will, just like I said the lights would come back on, the timeclock would be there to punch (ETIME), and the dress code would come. Their ship will burn in hell. Oh, don't get me wrong, it was a fun enjoyable atmosphere - minus the suits who plan on ruining the place. Merry Fuck you Beatty & Berryman!

My boyfriend worked for Mindspring. He came home drunk and happy every day.
I worked for Earthlink. I used to come home and plot ways to blow up the building.
