Would it kill Norton to just adopt one standard user interface across all their home protect-U-from-teh-ebil-intarweb products, so the menu structure for Norton Personal Firewall 2006 at least vaguely resembles the menu structures for Symantec Personal Firewall 2006, Norton Internet Security 2006 and Norton Internet Security 2006 Anti-Spyware Edition?

As far as I can tell, these four products' interfaces were designed by four different people who have never met and have never seen one another's products.

Like, if you just have Norton Internet Security, there's a systray icon you can right-click and "Disable." But if you have Norton Protection Center, there's this whole other baffling array of menus, of which "Norton Internet Security" is a subgroup, along with "AutoProtect" and "Mail Scanning."

but if you just have NIS, "Autoprotect" etc. appear as a subgroup of the NIS menu.

And from what I can tell, both products provide exactly the same set of features.

It's Norton, the only UI you need to know to fix it is MS's Add/Remove Program's. Worst 'security' software ever.

in the call I just got, it didn't even appear in the installed programs list. the only Norton/Symantec thing there was LiveUpdate. And when we tried to remove it, it refused, whining that "Other programs are installed that require LiveUpdate."

when the company releases a removal tool for there own software since so many people complain about the fact you can't remove it, you know there's a problem.

Actually, if you do that, you can break your system pretty good. It's better to download the manual removal tools from Symantec. HORRIBLE!!

Thats cause they are written by different people, who probably have never met and might not even work from the same office building. Norton/Symantec, after buying the various tools that are now sold under their brand, never established a UI guide like most other places would do.

Sadly my friend who works for Symantec doesn't work anywhere near the UI area and can't do much.
