Did you know that the flat end of a USB cable can fit into an Ethernet port?

Neither did I...nor would I have ever thought of doing that. But after spending 5 minutes with a guy that swears he has a USB cable plugged in, and receiving no new hardware wizard, I finally discover that he had put the USB cable in the ethernet port I had just had him remove the ethernet cable from....

/me beats her head into her desk.

Gads!

Why can't I be a mad scientist and develop the super virus that only kills people with an IQ lower than 125.

A little off-topic but...

It was a common problem for me among customers when the iMac's first came out (with the firewire port right next to the usb ports)

That you would have at least understood? Why that? An ethernet port is an ethernet port, and looks nothing like a USB port, regardless of operating system

That makes me wonder how people like that survived childhood without sticking cutlery into a wall socket.

no matter how unique and different that sockets get made into... there seems to be an oversupply of children who grew up fitting square pegs into round holes. Physics be damned!

I once had a student's boyfriend ( a CS major she said) "plug" her usb cable into a serial port.
