i think a part of me dies every time i ask the question "what's the public/WAN address?" and get an answer starting with "192..." or "10..."

at least we have the chicken.

LOL that's too funny.. Great resource.
Doesn't work inside .mil though. The IP it gave me was for a gateway.. yayy security!

172 too, but not very common from my travels.

::coughs::

I was mortified when I found out that our mail server was leaking it's internal, martian address to the real world.

I was even more mortified when I found that we were using a software proxy server as our firewall to the internet on the very same machine.

We got better.

Actually we use 172 for our internal address. But then I'm not the one who set up the new network. So no comment on the network admin. *cough*

IP Chicken! that's great. I was expecting the Burger King chicken saying "Your IP address is: some.eye.pee.address; What would you like the chicken to do now?"

I'm really sick of hearing it from my frontline techs, myself.

Just once, I want to smack them. Just once.

I wanted to smack the guy at the CO who bounced the ticket back to the frontlines because "the customer could ping 127.0.0.1 so there was nothing wrong with the line card"

OH Rly??

Are the public addresses of your customers all within the same /8? You could try "What's your external address WHICH STARTS WITH nnn DOT?"

Never hurts to boot a caller down the path of righteousness.

Found myself with the same problem. Some of my clients have mail with me but uplink to the net through someone else, thus problem sending out mail.

Thus I made an iptest myself , best simple script I've ever done.

Use it every week.
