Still makes me giggle
Dec. 28th, 2005 11:05 pmI've been the primary tech for a university's nursing college for about 8 years, and I've had some doozies along the years, but this one still remains my favorite.
I actually started out as the receptionist, but more people were calling me for tech support than our current two techs, so I got a promotion of sorts when one of them quit. One of the last things I did as receptionist wench was to convert all of our horrific DbaseIV databases into Access, and set everything up so that all the new wench had to do was just fill everything in (key tracker, phones, faculty listings, you name it).
And then they hired Gwen.
I get a call one day from her that she can't open any of the databases I set up, and she's freaking out. I go downstairs to find her away from her desk, but she's got MS Word open on the desktop. I open Access and voila, nothing wrong with them. She comes back in the office from doing the mail and I said "Gwen, are you trying to use Word to open these files? They're Access databases."
She gets snippy with me and says "That's what I've been TRYING to tell you. I've been TRYING to access them and they don't work!"
It took them a year to get rid of her. I'm suprised she made it that long.

Date: 2005-12-29 03:18 pm (UTC)Ours has the status of what we termed was the "Q", which was the department's workflow management system. We could also pull stocks and weather on them as well. Nifty little buggers. Expensive as all hell, but that's cisco kit.

Date: 2005-12-29 03:22 pm (UTC)We beat her severely about the head and chest after the second one, because 1) one of our remote users bitches up a storm, and 2) it increases my support calls by a factor of 5 when she does this.
