I seem to have a problem with IE not opening new windows. For example, I click an article on Fark and it'll open a window, but won't display the page or the toolbar or anything. All I can do is close the window, I can't interact with it.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP1
Browser version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.021108-1929CO

I've tried running the System File Checker, and I've tried running "regsrv32 urlmon.dll" as per some other things I read. I've also run all of the Windows updates. Thanks for any help you can give.

**EDIT** Please, don't just tell me to use a different browser. I understand that people have issues with MS, but I happen to like IE.

Use Mozilla.
You won't regret it.

I had the same problem a while back with IE. I tried everything. the only thing that worked was doing a format and reinstall of windows. but if mozilla works go for it. :)

If it's a cracked copy, it could be corrupt. I personally hate XP. Love the icon btw!

sure, but if the water pump blew in your car, would it not be possible that it worked a few months ago? there are probably corrupt files. I would try reinstalling or upgrading IE from download.microsoft.com. Or, if XP has it, if you go into add remove control panel and select IE there is an option to repair the program. Also you could try deleting temporary internet files or deleting the folder from your hard drive all together so a new one will be created, but that's probably a long shot.

You could also try repairing IE. Go to Add/Remove Programs, under the Control Panel.
Click on, 'Add/Remove Windows Components,' Un-check the Internet Explorer icon, click next. After this, re-check the IE box to reinstall it. You may want to copy you favorites before you do this, I'm not sure if it wipes them. (path X:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Favorites (X being the drive Windows is installed on/System Drive). This should fix the problem. Good Luck!

P.S. If you don't have an XP CD, don't try this... it's going to want it.

It's a good amount of reading, but it may point you in the right direction.

Remove SP1 from the computer. WinXP SP1 is known to cause problems.
