Dear Ignorant Woman that has no idea what "My Documents" means,

Don't yell at me because you're a complete idiot when it comes to your job. I've sat on the phone for over an hour explaining ridiculously minute steps in a process that would take me less than a minute to complete because you've never bothered to learn to use the software you use EVERY DAY. I also stayed on the phone for twenty minutes during your file transfer while you put the phone down and complained about me to whoever was with you. Yes it's MY fault that you have over two thousand emails that need exported and it's taking forever to send. Forgive me.

For the record, your documents are not stored in Word. They are saved in another location somewhere on your computer. When I ask you to tell me how you open them so I can figure out exactly where they are saved so we can send them, and you say "I click the LITTLE BLUE SQUARE ICON WITH A W ON IT AND THEN OPEN THE DOCUMENT I WANT" like I'm the idiot, does not help.

Also, if you do not pay attention to what your exporting, I can not be held responsible if your contacts don't get imported correctly into Outlook on your new laptop. I am going only off of the woefully inadequate information you've given me about your setup in Outlook, so I have no idea if you've exported the correct folder. Aw boo hoo. I don't feel bad. And I could have SWORN you said you wrote down every step I walked you through. So what is stopping you from doing this again yourself???

Lastly, don't you DARE yell at my coworker when you call back demanding more help. I told you my name numerous times while we were talking so it is not my fault that you don't know who you talked to, nor is it my coworker's fault that he has no idea who you are talking about when you say "That young girl".

I can't believe you're in a position that makes more money than me.

Yes. That's pretty much how I feel almost everyday.

Think about how I feel.

I had a guy with a $10k setup (dual 2.7 G5, dual 30" Cinema Displays) who called me because his password isn't be accepted. Turn off the caps lock, dipshit.

I wish I had the power to MAKE people send me their computers if I thought they were stupid enough. Kind of like revoking their license to own a computer or something. I am not kidding. People like that guy should not get to own such an amazing computer. Then I start thinking about what they probably do for a living, and realize that they probably make at least 3-4x what I do. It makes me so angry.

"I can't believe you're in a position that makes more money than me."

The root of the problem is that in her mind, that's what makes her a better person.

I feel that way everyday.
Sadly I know many people who open their documents like that every single day. In fact they have no idea where my documents is or even how to find programs that don't have shortcuts on their desktop. My favorite calls are thsoe of people who cannot get spreadsheets to open because when they open them all they get is garbage. After one agonizing call when I finally figured out that they were opening the spreadsheet in word and had them open it in excel and they thought I was a genius. Now I immediately tell them to open excel and browse to the document (typically this takes alot of explaining) and than we move on. I have given up on trying to get people to browse through folders and open files that way. It is futile and ties up too much of my day.

educating people on computers is often an exercie in futility

Then of course if you do manage to teach people how to browse through folders and open files that way, they get ticked off that it can't be done with a .pst.

*beats Outlook to death*

Unfortunately, Outlook is what our company uses and therefore what we must support. Oh well, at least we can tell the users that we don't support OE. That's a saving grace.

it sucks that exchange works only with MS mail clients because Microsoft does not play well with other children. If you had the choice of Outlook why would you use OE? that is like driving a car with wheels only on one side when you could have had at least four wheels

Because it's what they use at home. So they want it at work too. *sigh*

how about this novel concept since you use outlook at work you use it at home also? that way you conform to your job and not your job to you. I mean surely your job knows more about computers than you do anyway

They find it too difficult to set up. "Exchange server? Internet email? I don't know what to choose! Eeek!" *implodes*

I'm sick of hearing "OMG - this application has been uninstalled!!!" shortly followed by "what's the start menu" when I ask them to look through there

Mail their manager stating that you will no longer support this person until she's taught the basics of using a computer.
