Actual case notes:


couldnt send email. stated he was using Outlook 2003 Pro, however what he was reading off didn't make any sense. 15 minutes into the call, he stated he was using Mozilla Thunderbird. Then asked if the email address had to be correct or would that cause errors. He fixed the email address, and it worked.

a bigger problem is when they're using 98/ME, and tell you they've got "the latest one, XP"

Cust's computer shipped with Win98. Cust swears still using Win98.

Ask cust to click on Start, go to Programs. Cust:"All Programs?"

cut to:
Right click "my computer" click on properties, click on "device manager"

Cust:"It's not there!"
*le sigh* "ok, click on "hardware", then click on "device manager."

At this point you know they're going to escalate when you refuse to troubleshoot their 3rd party OS any further...
