I'm not in a typical call center. I handle tech support for process control (HMI) software. So usually the people I'm talking to have somewhat of a clue. But why do they insist on calling me when they aren't at their systems?? I ask for version info, error log info, etc and I get "oh, I don't have that". Well, call me back when you do..

Word Up My brothah!

*BZZAP* as a lightning bolt striles the Oh so white guy.....

but seriously i know that pain. people run into an issue via the computer then call in while in the car (or worse in the abthroom) and expect you to solve it without any data...

pwah on them.

My boss used to get calls from some lady all the time. "Hi I have a problem with the system but I have no time to talk about it right now"

I know she got VERY tired of that after a while. "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU CALLING ME THEN?!" I was just happy this lady would call her and not me despite the fact that my office is a few steps away from her cube and my boss works from her home in Texas. ;-)

Because all techies are supposed to be psychic.. we're supposed to magically connect to their computer and get this information for them. They are too "important and special" to bother to write anything down or be at their computers.

/me mutters about how "special" they really are
