Cutest thing happened yesterday. Customer called and wanted some help with e-mail. She has a friend staying with her and they are trying to check her friends email with some other ISP (let's say ISPA). She wants to know why she can't get her e-mail from webmail at ISPB. She said "They say you can check your e-mail from anywhere in the world" *giggle* Had to explain you can check ISPB's e-mail "wherever you are in the world", not you can check e-mail from any ISP in the world.

You know, her ISP might have actually had a webmail interface that would have allowed her to check her email dialed up to you. Ours does.

Heh. some mail server software has that ability to pull mail from other mail servers and collect it at one single point. Nice feature, but I know of no one that uses it.

Andthere are some web-mail-ish software that can do that as well.

I used to use Yahoo to check my home domain's email all the time. Until our network group decided that web-based email was in danger of getting us viruses....

Yours too, huh? I work in a school and the local education authority provide the internet connectivity (but that's another rant entirely), and in their wisdom have decided that only their webmail should be available to anyone - regardless of who they are or what they do. Fortunately for me, thanks to a cockup a few weeks ago where they blocked the whole of Google for a morning, I can now get to Gmail (It was blocked, then they blocked everything, then everyone screamed at them, then they unblocked the works. They've not noticed yet.)
