So I was helping someone put their email on their mobile device today. Standard free yahoo account, no big worries there. They say it's not working. Can send, but wont receive.

Luckily I happen to have a test yahoo account we can use for situations like this.

We set it up on his device, I do the same on mine.

He sees the email that was already in the inbox. I have him send an email to that same account to make sure the device is working.

I see the email appear in my inbox. He says it does not on his. Seconds later the email disappears.

I check the trash.

Guess where the email went.

Guess who is not getting a replaced device.

This is slightly OT, but I thought those of you who love The IT Crowd as much as I do might get a kick out of it: they want people in the IT industry to help dress their set! They are just about to start filming series three (YES!!) and want the office to look like a "a geek's Shangri-La". Here is a link to Graham Linehan's blog (the writer, who also wrote Black Books and Father Ted) with full details: http://whythatsdelightful.wordpress.com/2008/08/12/be-my-hive-brain/

So what would you suggest they have in the office? I think a Guy Fawkes mask and Rick Astley poster are essential myself...

(and if you don't know what The IT Crowd is, have a look here)

Since this is not a rant but something else.

Today is my last day at my current position - I am transferringh inside my current employer and will have an entirely new cusotmer base. So, I have ben sending out emails to our frequent flyers thanking them for being challenging but also rewarding customers. and the replies I have gotten back have been so incredibly nice that I am sitting here being all weepy bcause the truth is?

i will miss them, even the impossible ones. There are users whose calls I used to dread and with time grew to love because intimidating and impossible became familiar and understandable as I learned more about what i was doing and we larned to know each other - I trusted them to know what they were doing, and they trusted me to understand what they were telling me.

Anyone else exzperience this sort of a ting when they have had to leave a cadre of users behind, o have you all jsut been happy to give them a nonverbal GDIAF?

My desktop is covered with media files with names like "Limewire, WoW, Launch Internet and Recycling Bin." It seems that all my applications are registering as media files, they open in Windows Media Player and then there are error messages and options for web help that does no good. I had to click on the "Web Help" button just to get a browser to open up.
Anyone know why this is happening?
I'm using Vista Home Basic on a Toshiba Satellite. I recently ran virus scans, removed recent updates and tried safe mode as well and nothing seemed to help.

When I give you morons a part number for the part I am ordering, that is EXACTLY what I expect to get. This machine has a glossy TrueLife LCD. That is the part I ordered. You've now sent me TWO matte displays. The note on the 2nd part order detailed EXACTLY what was done, and what SHOULD have been done, and both had correct part numbers on the requests.  Obviously, you cannot read written English. Instead, I had to call the guys at Warranty Parts Direct phone support and do the order the hard way.

Die in a fire.

A Mr. Fakey von Fakerson opened a ticket earlier today.. here's what it says:

Mis-concep-tions, cha cha cha! )

Oh it gets better, we now have a written confession that he is going to have one of his "hacker friends" take care of us. I run the servers, his little script kiddie buddies have no chance to get in.
