Why can't people follow *simple* instructions?

... At my work , people send Purchase Orders to accounting through our oh so wonderful Access 97 program... They have to press two freakin buttons (in the right order) to send them. Instead they press one button that looks easier even though we have told them *many* times the order in which to press the damn buttons. Its not that difficult. You press the top one first THEN the bottom one. And now someone has done it wrong 5 times today, even though I told him to stop while I fixed his other mistakes... and now they are just piling up! URGHHHHHHHH.  So I have to dig around int he database tables an uncheck some stuff and then resend the damn PO's... what a pain.

*stabby stab stab*

*edit* - I mention the situation to my boss who says he gone over the process at least 8 times now with the user in question... some people never learn I guess.

We had a copy of OSX 10.5 returned today. The reason? The software actually on the DVD was Windows Vista Business (32 bit). This was a normal pressed DVD in full normal Apple retail packaging. I verified it myself in my workstation.

1. User calls saying her Out of Office isn't working from the BlackBerry. I have her test it for me. "Well, it worked until I turned it off." Ok, so how about we try this...how about you NOT turn it off then? "Well, it wasn't working before." Well, it's working now; what do want from me? FFS!

2. User can't find the Wipe Handheld command. The first instructions given to her were outdated so I sent her new ones. She still can't find it. "So if you go here, here, and here and do this, you don't see it?" Which is an exact re-reading of the instructions I just sent her. "Oh, I found it." /sigh So you just needed them read aloud to you before they made sense, I take it.

3. I tell user he needs to wipe handheld and reactivate. I attach detailed instructions that outline every step he'll need to do. He writes back, "I don't know what you want me to do when so I can't decide if it's a good step to take." If you had READ the step-by-step instructions I sent you'd know what I wanted you to do! Gawd!

4. Most recent: sent user instructions on how to wipe handheld and reactivate. Got a message back a couple hours later wondering if it was done because it didn't seemed to have done anything. She never started the wipe. She thought it would happen by itself. Despite the fact that I sent her instructions on how to do it. Nowhere in those instructions did it say "wait on God to do if for you." /headdesk

$ISP1: When client X called you to have their service moved on Friday and you had some kind of problem in actually getting said service moved to the new location, a phone call stating that there was a problem and couldn't be processed would have been great! That way I wouldn't have had to waste 45 minutes of my day on the phone with a technician that wanted me to go through troubleshooting steps that wouldn't have worked had I even tried them.

Another thing, fishing a cable along the wall and connecting it to a wall mounted RJ11 jack and then pushing the other end of the cable up behind the phone block does not give that line connectivity. It kind of has to be terminated in said phone block to actually be able to transmit the DSL signal that the modem needs to communicate with your network.

$ISP2: When I call to get the factory restore procedure for a branded modem from your company because I don't have internet access to look it up, don't walk me through your entire manual trying to fix problems that do not exist. Just give me the damn procedures so you don't waste the next 45 minutes of my life with worthless attempts at fixes for things that are not broken. And when I said 50 minutes earlier that the modem was most likely the problem for not being able to access the internet, then you finally come to said conclusion after wasting said 50 minutes you can bet I'm going to be a bit pissed off. When I give you an IP address that starts with 169.254, that means the freaking DHCP server on the modem is not functioning. Asking me to ipconfig /release will not give you a result you are looking for. Then asking me to uninstall my NIC and reboot also will not fix said problem when multiple computers on said network are all giving 169.254.x.x addresses.

And again to $ISP1: When you go in to set up service for a company that had service from one of your competitors and was using a static address with a bridged DSL modem, just connecting your DSL modem and leaving will not give them internet access. You kind of have to change the configuration in the router the company was using.

I've dealt with smacktards and numbnuts this week, how has your week been?

Yesterday I was working on a voip call. My company sells voip and other various phone services. Upon taking this call I realized this was going to be a long one but I just didn't know how bad it was going to be.

Me: Okay sir, I need you to go to your computer, your pc and type this in for me.
Cust: Sure, I'm there.
Me: Type in 192.168.123.1
Cust: Alright. (I hear phone beeps in the background....I am little confused by this.)
Me: Sir, what are you doing?
Cust: Typing it in...
Me: In where?!
Cust: My phone, you said Dial.
Me: Sir, (pause) you are going to need to call the rep that gave you that box to do any other trouble shooting. I can't assist you any further. Have a nice day...

Congratulations on making it through our several levels of tech support until we determined you encountered an actual real bug in the product. I worked on a fix personally for you to get you past this issue. I'm sorry that when you installed this fix, your server crashed. That's really not supposed to happen. This is why I spent an entire day analyzing your crash dumps to determine why my fix crashed your server. As much as I tried, I could not figure out why my fixed caused the crash. I did however figure out it was crashing in the anti-virus module, which is not something I changed.

Only then did you mention that you also installed brand new anti-virus software AT THE SAME TIME YOU INSTALLED MY PATCH!!!
