Dear $regional Service Desk,

Effective as of Monday $myteam no longer provides support for the current BlackBerry implementation in $region. Additionally no new BlackBerry accounts will be created in $region, users should evaluate using ActiveSync instead. $otherteam will provide support for existing BlackBerry users in future.

We'll also be dropping support for the BlueBerry and "Black Barry" solutions on the same date. While we greatly enjoyed receiving these tickets, we decided to discontinue support after one of our techs was incarcerated for attempting to exhume the corpse of a musician, and another turned blue and had to be wheeled off by Oompa Loompas.

Also just a reminder that while IntelliSink devices are no longer supported, I've got one at home and it makes a great conversation partner while doing the dishes.

Sincerely,

Customer calls me up, and asks me to ping her computer, because things were wrong, and "a techie told me I need to have you send the ping to my modem".

It took 60 minutes of diagnosis and annoyance and interrupting, but I finally convinced her that, in fact, the problem was not with her ISP, but in fact with her wireless connection.

But I really just wanted to say

"Request timed out."

"Request timed out."

"Request timed out."

"Request timed out."

I used to think that reinstalling XP on an HP was the most annoying job ever.  (So many freaking drivers, and that awful webpage...!)
Then I starting having to downgrade from Vista to XP - on Dells, at first.  This now became the most annoying thing ever.
But those cases have dried up - Dell now ships with XP if you want it.

Today I had to upgrade from Vista to XP on an HP Pavilion dv9xxxx.  (I say xxxx deliberately, as the case had one model number, the BIOS said another, and the hardware detector on HP's site - which I've always disdained, because, after all, who can't figure out what model they've got sitting in front of them?! - said a third.)

Five hours later, I can conclusively tell you that getting the drivers for that thing was the Most Annoying Thing Ever.  My god.  Thanks for such a great reminder of why I've been known to deny all knowledge of Windows, HP.

Engineers.

Why did they make 'em F-keys? Clearly nobody thought of phone support when they did this.

How many times will I have to hear "S-8?" "No, dammit."
