Users with a sense of humor even with as stressed as they get.

Our users are Customs House Brokerage entry writers and typically have 50+ entries to deal with at any given moment. Not only do they have time constraints put on them by the customer, they tend to get carriers calling and yelling as well.

Usually, by the time they get to us with an issue, they've been reamed 6 new ones and are NOT happy. However, there are a small number who keep their heads about them and remember that we are NOT the enemy. Here is one such ticket:

"Please help. Customer is stalking me."

P.S. Yes, she did actually include the issue she was having...but it isn't pertinent to the post. :)

Hey all!  I haven't been in this community for months, cause well, I didn't have the energy at the end of the day on my last job to retell the stories of the stupid.  I started a new job, away from the trappings of a phone position, and it's going on one month before I got to the first end Luser.

But, before I begin, let me preface the story.

The person in question was complaining that her machine was taking way too long to boot up.  Insert "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" sound here.  So, being the good tech that I am, I take a look at her machine from a non-biased standpoint.  I boot the machine up.  The post goes off without a hitch, the bios runs through in a normal time.  The Windows Splash screen appears, and it goes away in a normal amount of time.  I'm thinking to myself that it's going to boot up in a normal time, but this woman is going to want it to boot faster because well, she's high maintenance.  The login prompt appears, and I ask her to authenticate.  She does, and it appears to move just fine, until the offline files sync up begins.

The damn thing takes ten minutes to sync up her offline files.   She can't do anything while this is going on.

So, the user says to me, what can I do to make this go faster?  I said to her "well, you can turn off this service, and it will make your computer boot a lot faster, but you will lose the ability to work on your files offline.  I literally say this to her five times.  She nods, and I think she understands.

This was last Thursday.  Let me repeat that, a week ago.  This morning, as I get seated my phone rings.  It's this woman on the other end, in a gods damned panic, demanding that I get my ass up there (those exact words) and fix her computer, because now all of her files are missing from her machine and she can't do her job.

I sit there, thinking to myself, why do I even bother?  She goes on for 10 minutes about how I "destroyed her computer." and how it'll take her a "week to recover".

I re-enable offline files, restart the machine, have it sync up, and low and behold, everything returns.

I then try to explain that she gave me the go ahead to do this.  I told her this would happen, and she said that was fine.

Sometimes I hate people.
