Spirit of woot twofer tuesday:

Customer: "wtf, network cable unplugged, but WHY!?!?!?"
ME: "Is this a wireless computer?"
Customer: "yes"
ME: *palmface*

From Boss:

custie: how easy is it to setup a network in windows?
jon: it depends on your expertise.
custie: i'm a retarded person.
jon: then you probably want our software.

yeah, I work for a networking software company.

OK, is it just my office, or are customers as a whole filled with extra stupid today?

I just had someone admit to me that he's trying to commit fraud in order to get out of paying customs duties, but then insisted that I magically find a way for him to insure the package for the full value.

...

WTF is wrong with people?!?!?!

And *then* he had the nerve to get pissy with me when I called him on the fraud! Some people... And the other calls have been just about as special.

And it begins....

Dear Frazzled Secretary,

Please do not come in here freaking out on me because the lab staff did not set up your AV equipment and flipcharts for your event tomorrow. Yes, I'm aware you have "months" of correspondence with them, but you see, I'm not part of the lab per se. Sure, my office is in here, but my job is technical support - for the entire building and three remote sites. They didn't book or set up your equipment? Not my problem. Your computer has smoke pouring out of it? My problem. That's the way my cookie crumbles.

Since I have no idea where any of this stuff is though, help yourself. Send them an email and tell them what you took. I still could care less.

Oh, nice sign you put up on the window of the door flipping out on them and demanding they drop everything and fix your shit. I hope you understand I had to move it further down.

Have a nice day, if you can.

Activating lots and lots of video game codes in a row makes [livejournal.com profile] fuego a very cranky tech.

What About It?

Ring...ring...rin-
Cx: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello, this is J_ W_ with Dell, calling for T_ W_."
Cx: "What?"
Me: "This is J_ W_ with Dell, calling for T_ W_."
Cx: "Well....what about it?"
Me: "I want to fix your computer."
Cx: "I don't have no computer!"
Me: "Um...is this T_ W_?"
Cx: "No! Never heard of him!"
Me: "Okay then, thank you!"

HDTV

So since I got thrown into the "cable" tech support recently, I just want to say...

If you have an HDTV, you better know what it's capable of. Read the manual, and understand fully what HDTV does and what it's all about.

That is all.
