Background: We have almost 20,000 computers and close to 500 labs.

Clueless L(user): I need to be added to a computer.

Fried at 8am hell desk monkey: What computer is that?

CL: It's one in the lab.

Fried Monkey: Ok, what's the property number of the machine?

CL: I don't know. It's in the lab around the corner on the third floor.

Fried Monkey: Um...we can remote in and give you access but I need to know what machine it is.

CL: You need to know that? Never mind. *click*

Why, oh why did they invent the OLK super duper hidden directory? All day long, I remote in and save people's asses who are too stupid to save an attachment and then put in three days work before 'losing' the file (why did you delete my presentation?!!!). Gah! Ok, fine, it is user stupidity but you program stuff to work with people. You don't create a directory that 'show hidden directories' doesn't show. Why? Why, why why?

Um. Ok.

Customers say the darnedest things...

My email address has changed to and I have also gone from my lap top that shot the craps to a desk top.  Is there anyway to move my subscription to this new computer?

One thing I've noticed about the last two places I've worked - there's a contingent of operators who seem to be completely obsessed with cars. Car screensavers, car models on their desks, car posters in their cubicles, car websites in their bookmarks. They even spend their lunches talking about their cars while eating, so there's a constant background sound of *moomf moomf turbocharge moomf carburettor moomf moomf pulled the engine out and moomf moomf slick wheels moomf three-litre moomf paintjob moomf moomf..."

Is this something new? Or am I just behind the times? And why doesn't there seem to be any other obsession which is just as common? Even the subject of building / tweaking one's own PC (previously the #1 techsupport subject of choice) seems to have paled and fallen by the wayside in the face of this automotive onslaught.

Anyone here a revhead themselves? And if so, what the heck's going on?
