I hate lawyers. Especially the ones who think they can throw the fact they are a lawyer around and get what you want.
Yes, I could tell at the beginning of the call that he was going to need a service call, but there is still steps I have to perform to get to that point.
First he got all defensive when I asked him to bypass his splitter. I don't care how old they are or where you got it from. I have seen those up and die quite randomly. Plus, I am required to attempt to have you do it (if it is possible).
At that point he got pissy asked for my full name and said he was writing everything down. He can write all he wants; we record every fucking call that comes in our place.
Then he said he was going to write a letter to the mayor because he had a service call a week ago and now it isn't working. It might be related, it might now. But out field techs aren't psychic. He found something, he fixed it. Either it or something else broke later. I don't think one letter from a dick of a lawyer is going to convince the mayor to not renew the cable companies contract. Even if it is a Podunk little town.
So, after all the troubleshooting the cable modem came on. Probably a loose cable he won't admit to that I had him check. But he is still pissy and the fact he is on-line doesn't seem to phase him. Whatever, there is a history of issues, I can still submit a service call. Call a senior tech just to verify and cover my ass, he is writing this down after all.
Now it is time to fill out the service call request. The process requires that we verify the address and phone number. Don't want to send the cable guy to the wrong house. And yes, I have the address in front of me, that that's why I am "verifying" it and not "requesting" it. He is a lawyer, he should know what words mean. I don't care if you say we have it in front of me, and say it hasn't changes and swear at me for it. I need to verify for address and phone number. Refuse to give it to me, no service call for you. Now, most of the time this step is half assed or skipped by some techs, or just brushed over it. But he is writing this down, I better stick exactly to the Standard Operating Procedures. Now he is going to sue because he has it all written down how I refuse to help him. "Well, sir I need to verify that information in order to submit the service request for you. Now if you still insist on refusing to cooperate, I unfortunately cannot do anything else for you. The best way to resolve this at this point would be a representative from out local office...." Now he is going to sue because he has it all written down how I refuse to help him. This is where he starts swearing at me and hangs up.
I feel sorry for the guy at the local office who has to deal with this ass tomorrow. I wonder if he going to sue them too. Or maybe he will tell them his story of how mean I was to him because I didn't bed over for him because he is a lawyer. But I told the senior techs about it and my supervisor. We had a good laugh and then I sent an e-mail explaining the customers behavior so they can forward it to the local office. What a way to end the shift.
