I've been playing some old DOS games (like Blood :D) and I'm curious - has anyone else managed to get the sound decent on a C-media soundcard under XP? (specifically a CMI8739/c3dX ) I miss the screams the monks make when you flambe them....

And yes, I've tried setting the IRQ's, but XP/the sound card uses a set you can't program into the game config..

Me: So - in this Windows XP of yours, in the control panel, do you have about 9 or more than 20 icons?

Them: Yes.

I swear some of our sites are such whiny, cheap babies.

I received this email today:

Can I send faxes via email? )

Dear Client,

I realize that you are very eager to get your reports in a new format based on some ridiculous criteria that you made up. And I appreciate that it's creating more work for you over there. boo hoo.

Over here, we have had to change our format three times in the last year and each change was a reasonably large and costly programing change as well. This last one is sort of system-wide and since you asked us for it at least a week or so ago I can appreciate why you are so impatient already. As I said, reprogramming through a third party takes a while and since we are paying for it (and all the other programming changes you dictated without telling us ahead of time via changing your format) perhaps you should show some appreciation and shut the hell up about it. Whining doesn't speed things up. Try acting like a grown-up for a change.

Love,

Your sysdamin.

Gee, I'm sorry. Those Voldemort infestations are awfully hard to stop....

We implemented a new, well, not really new, I should say A password policy 3 months ago. Well, it turns out that as of two days ago, while everyone was at home AND without the 14 day warning defined in the Group Policy...our Win2000 network decided that everyone's password was no longer valid. Ok, no big deal...I'm sure everyone read and kept the email I sent around about what happens when this occurs and how to change your password, right?

Sure...

70+ users...luckily only about 30 calls + emails total. Some people had changed their PW previously and it had not aged to the max yet...
