Conversation I just had:

[ring ring]

Customer DisService Monkey: Hello, you're through to [company], how may I help.
Me: Would you like to start with an invoice number?
CDSM: Yes please.
Me: B-120...
CDSM [interrupting]: That's an invoice number.
Me: Yes. I asked if you'd like to start with an invoice number.
CDSM: I thought you said account number. I can't do anything with an invoice number.
Me [thinking "got a right one here"]: OK, well it's going to be one of these two numbers at the top. The first starts with 1-107, and the second starts with 1-574, which is it likely to be?
CDSM: They're both too short.
Me [restraining the impulse to ask if the CDSM is from the hard-of-thinking Work Placement Scheme]: OK [reads out the two numbers in full]
CDSM: It's the second one.

From then on, it went OK.

"My home phone rings every time I click on Internet Explorer..."

We deleted the old connection, created a new connection, and then it took 10 minutes for him to type in the correct username.

I had to explain how to log on to the internet 5 times after that.
