One of the few "Holy Grails" of tech support is the ever coveted Project. This is time when you are pulled off of the phone/e-mail queues and assigned work. It doesn't matter if it is licking Satan's balls, you'll HAPPILY do it because you are off of the phone. I spent three grueling days on this project. My supervisor returns from his vacation tonight and says "I Love what you've done with the project, now go back over it and do exactly what you did, but COMPLETELY differently" - I would MUCH rather be on the phone with ID10Ts. Argh. At this point I would enjoy licking Satan's balls.

I was the "project girl" for quite some time, at my former place of employment.

I was off the phones on project status for well over a year. When I left project status, it was because of a promotion.

Obviously, this earned me quite a bit of jealousy. But I had plenty of experiences like the one you outline. The non-project folks didn't get that part of it.

I get projects sometimes, it's great to be off the phones.. until I realize I have no idea what I'm doing.

I think I'm going to go project-ing soon. One of the Site Sponsors pulled me aside(the same guy who gave us the "forecasting" speech 5 minutes before terminating the first training class we were in - so I was rightly spooked when he wanted to talk to me _personally_) to tell me that some guys from corporate(and from our big-name account) were coming down to do management training, and he had signed me up for it.

Whoopee I get to be a Dilbert villian now >=D
