I am unimpressed with their hardware and their RMA people. I bought a computer that turned out to be a refurb, and I don't want it. I wish to send it back. The case is marred on arrival and I'm not 100% satisfied. I didn't know I was buying a refurbed gateway computer, for nearly a thousand dollars.

They have already threatened me with www.badcustomer.com within 2 emails.

A marred case on a recertified unit is not a reason to return.

Recertified means it was checked over but there's rarely any standard mentioned, so you don't know how thorough. Regardless, there wouldn't be any need to recertify the item if it were in new and undamaged condition, so you can count on it having been out of its box and handled by an indefinite number of people. Scuffed cases and other minor cosmetic deviations from "new" condition should be expected.

In a way "refurbished" is superior because it implies some effort has been taken to return it to the original appearance and durability by replacing high-wear items and other frequent maintenance items, while a "recertified" item may have just been checked over and passed as-is.

This is speaking over my experience with the general maintenance industry, not just PCs and electronics. Individual vendors can use the terms differently, but it ought to be pretty close unless they are fraudulent.

Dude, this is the place where we mock people who don't pay attention to what is directly in front of them. What did you think "recertified" meant? That they certified a new PC twice just to be sure?

Does the computer not actually do what they said it would do?

I second this. It was in front of your face and you either misinterpreted or ignored it.

I think thats pretty clear. Did you seriously give your credit card number to a random website without reading their terms?

...you MUST be a windows user.
