BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My last call of the night involved a guy who told me that the mere suggestion of going to our business department and getting a business internet account is blackmail and extortion. Because Mr. "I get 175 dollars an hour" doesn't want to pay our business fees.

Now he is probably going to pay legal fees because:

A: He violated his terms and conditions by using a residential internet account for his business.

B: Told me that he is going to tell everyone at his speaking gig to drop us and go with our competitor tomorrow.

And I'm laughing because that my call was listened in to (and recorded for qualitied!) by the Cable company's head hancho who was visiting!

He listened in (on our site supervisors will randomly listen in to make sure we are following protocol)because he saw me trying very very VERY hard not laugh at this guy as he ranted.

Got a 100% on my quality thought!

Outstanding. I predict he's gonna fold faster then a one-legged card table. :)

He's totally in the wrong.

But I'm not sure how his telling everyone at his speaking gig to drop your company is going to end up in his paying legal fees unless he actually lies about what happened, someone from your company has recorded evidence of it, and your company decides to sue him.

And what does your company have in its agreement as the consequence for using a residential internet account for business?

It's probably not a going to court matter unless *he* decides to follow up, and he's not likely to do so. Your company *could* do something, but almost certainly would not if all he did was yell about it. They would if his account was using a huge amount of resources because it's a business account, because that's the real reason they don't want commercial enterprises running under residential service.

If what he pays them still nets them a profit, they're not likely to discontinue his service.

I think the most likely result is that he will continue to use the account for business, and he'll continue to bitch about whatever service delays and problems are inherent in paying less for residential service to the few people who will listen.

Second likely is he goes to a competitor and runs into the same issues.

Or just goes to a competitor and doesn't.

In both of the places I have lived there are competitively priced ISPs that don't differentiate between business and consumer, you just have to go hunting for them. The one I've been with has been very happily operating word of mouth for 7 years now with unmatched service in the area, at 2/3's of the price of the more popular isp's; living off word of mouth only business.

Awesome!

It amazes me, the amount of clients who have consumer accounts who'll then pull the "I'm losing X dollars a day FIX IT DAMMIT" shit at us and it is only at that point we discover they're even running a business on a home account.

All we do is say to them "in theory we could pull the plug on you for running a business on a home plan" and I'd like to think that shuts them up... but sadly it usually ends in"ARE YOU THREATENING ME?" crap.

Gods I'm glad I dont work on the accounts team :/

It's much more fun when you simply _do_ pull the plug on them for that very reason, and let Billing and Legal off the leash.

I thought this is where you hand them off to the sales team to sell them a mega-dollar business plan with a service level agreement. After all if it is important to them they will surely be willing to pay for it, right?

(Man I coun't even type that with a straight face)
