This was an interesting read that was also a little scary! A tech support person attacked another technician for being in the Open Source business!

I smell a fucking rat.

Not only was that story itself more than a little over the top, I knew I remembered HeliOS from something... something else controversial, and kinda-plausible, kinda-over-the-top questioned by a bunch of people.

A little googling found it: this is the same guy that claimed that some elementary school teacher at some school, neither named, had called Linux a "virus" or some such; and supposedly made all sorts of threats about suing him for ... well, something. It made the front page of Slashdot... and, oddly, the ravening hordes never could manage to figure out what the hell school, or teacher, he was talking about.

Oh hey I remember reading that school teacher story on ./ too, seemed pretty plausible at the time. Good job piecing the two together, I smelled bullshit when first reading the gas station post, linking the two together confirms it in my mind.
