Echoing a sentiment made by [livejournal.com profile] amynnah today:

The surest way to get people to come to your desk?

GO GET LUNCH.

The entire Help Desk, two senior engineers and two random employees have walked into this room demanding my immediate attention for christfucking nothing in the five minutes between me getting back with a sammich and me typing this post. Not a one of them minds that I have a maw full of turkey; in fact, they are inconvenienced by this.

Fuckers.

And this was after the shelf on which our lobby TV's cable box resided proudly proclaimed it would no longer be joined to that wall BY CRACKY, causing said cable box and a Blu-ray player to land on my foot when my job title morphed from Systems Administrator to Time Warner Technician...

I work within 2 minutes walking distance of my home; therefore, I have my lunch at home. They do catch me on cellphone every now and then though. Latest gem was earlier this week - as I sat down to eat, a client called all agitated - their servers are shutting down! All of them! We didn't do nothing! All we did was unplug the UPS from mains power to see if it works!

They come to your desk when you're already on the phone with someone yelling about something being brokeeeeeeen and fix it naaaaaaaaaaooooooooo.... or when you're on lunch. It's inevitable.

Maw full of turkey = win. :)

Or both. :( Trying to nom lunch with the user screaming at you while you have them muted is something I don't miss about my old job.

Yeah, I have the problem too. I'm getting very tempted to find an empty office to eat lunch in.

I tend to make a point of never, ever eating at my desk at work. Even when the job is phone/email only, ie no walk-ins, it's inevitable that a co-worker or manager or someone will see you eating and make the leap of logic that eating => not working => free to be subjected to blither and demands.

so...what didn't you fix that made them descend upon you like The Birds? Mostly, I tend to see that when these peeps come a calling is because someone promised them a status on something....fuckin' accountability or some shyte like that...

Remember first rule: always AWL-WAYS..lower expectations.
