No, but it's prolly the same guy who did this: (pic heavy, untill someone gives me a nice code to scale them down, plzthx)
He taped 2 hard drives together, the one in the picture is dead. mostly everything is cooked. He spliced every wire, then used scotch tape to hook them together. He then spliced a USB cable into the outputs for the LEDs, using scotch tape, or just twisting them and leaving them bare. He then chopped up the fan's cable 2 times to fit the same connector, but different colour on, more scotch tape there as well. Note that the highly conductive 'craft wire' is both going inside the power supply and touching pretty much everything else in the damn case, with another wire just hanging loose. The graphics card had no bracket, more tape there.

I think that is both retarded and ingenious. Wow.

“Yeah, I think I see the problem. You see that there? That's not an LED or something to illuminate the insides or a fancy glowing thing for LAN parties. That's your CPU, there. It's glowing white hot. And this fan here? Yeah, it's not doing shit. About the only thing that'll do is supply more oxygen when it finally catches fire.”

.... *BANG!*

That's what this machine's gonna do, but in the space of about 15 seconds. No heatsink on the processor?!

Actually, many modern CPUs will scram when they get too hot.

The intel chips will- they'll either clockstop, or slow down until it's at a safe temp. The Athlons, though... no. They did not have adequate thermal failsafes on them, as Tom over at Tom's Hardware noted so impressively a number of years ago.

Not sure how well the newer XP64 and opteron based AMDs procs cope, however.

Oh, I know. I ran a Dual Athlon MP rig (http://www.mattcaron.net/projects/dual_athlon/) for many years... until I ran out of spare 80GB HDDs for the RAID5 array and built a new box (http://www.mattcaron.net/projects/core_2_quad/).

In my defense, I did say "many" and, more importantly, modern, meaning last couple/few years... like < 5.

Is the guy just allergic to screws, or are they just some fancy new-fangled thing for newbs? ;-)

This goes beyond weird...

Oh... good lord. That's... I mean, everything inside computers are now colour-coded, and/or obviously shaped to fit into certain holes, and even then, some are even LABELED! I can't even begin to imagine what this guy was thinking. Or dropping.

I've GOT to show this to my IT technician friends haha.

Your problem is that you were imagining that he was thinking in the first place...

Well, admittedly I do have a computer that's kinda like that.

Except that it's a Pentium 100, and the heatsink is on the proc, and the heatsink barely gets warm even without a fan.

Thoug H i had it mounted to a piece of cardboard with zip ties, and my splices were soldered and heat shrinked.

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing looking at the different end he put on the fan, and I'm like "I've done that before... except I used solder and heat shrink".

I have to wonder just how fast you would have to move the air over a naked AMD Athlon T-Bird to keep it working. My guess would be somewhere above hurricane force. This makes me want to try a really unwise experiment with a leaf blower...

Also, is that cigarette tar I see there?

Do that for all your pics and it'll bring up the small-size, while allowing people to click on the pic for the large-size and the detailed WTFery.

Yes, I am a geek. :D

That..that is not a CPU any more. It is a very expensive and rather inefficient hot plate.

Duct tape does not fix everything [and that's not even duct tape!]

Masking tape in place of proper screws?

I really hope that guy's keeping a fire extinguisher near his PC. @.@
