I recieved a call today, that i believe qualifies as exclusive to those of us lucky enough to provide support in the "Land of the Midnight Sun."

"Hi, thanks for calling [ISP], how can we help you?"

"Umm, yeah, i need help. This [expletive deleted] MOOSE just came into my house, trampled all of my [stuff], and now my modem isn't working..."

You know, if a moose had just trampled my house, i'd be worried about a little more than the internet, i think.

Y'know, now that I think about it, I haven't gotten a call from our Anchorage market in quite awhile. Moosestorm?

Oh dear.

My family's personal problem was squirrels in our transformer.

My office has started just turning all the Alaskan cases over to me. I feel your pain.
Then again, Alaskans do have the most amusing accidental damage protection claims.

On the other side, if the Moose Gun was available, hey, Free Meat!

And considering the size of most moose, that'd be a year's worth of free meat.

(I almost typed "moost"...)

I'm trying to remember just what the 'recommended' size for those are...

.223 remington (aka 5.56 NATO) is too small, although shot placement *will* take a moose down.
7.62x39 is a bit on the week side, but multiple shots would work.
7.62x54R is a more powerful then the x39, but it's the same bullet)
.45-70 would certainly work; its used in buffalo guns.
.454 casull would work. it's a big game and anti-bear caliber.
.45 Colt would possibly work as well.
.50BMG would also work, if it can stop a friggen tank, it'll probably stop a moose.
.500 magnum (the ammo used in the S&W 500 series revolvers) would work, but you'd probably break yer hand if you hadn't shot one before.

Not sure what moose tastes like. If it's anything like deer... nummy.

Hmmm.... Let's look at his choices:

Worry about damage to the living room in your house...

or

Worry about the only connection to civilization and the greater world to keep you sane while living in Alaska.

Ummmm... yeah, I'd be calling for support as well.

hey, in a lot of places, Home Depot and Wal-Mart are open 24/7.

Get the trouble ticket opened when you can -- it'll take a while to get a resolution, anyway. That way, by the time you've got the hole(s) boarded up from the moose's entrance and exit and the replacement furniture assembled and installed, maybe the new modem will have arrived.

I can totally see that. Well, actually I can more see the moose doing something outside the house than in, but then I guess in more remote areas anything can happen.

I've never had a moose wreck my intarwebs or eat my homework, but I did use it as a totally legitimate reason to skip class: there was a moose right on the path to the building I needed, and I couldn't find a parking place that wouldn't make me walk right by it.
