Ticket that just came in:

"The setting of the pc is gone everytime I login my account. Could I know
how to fix it?"

Ask user to stop by.

$PYRO: What setting isn't be saved?
$LUSER: Just, the setting. The setting.
$PYRO: Could you be a little more specific? Maybe give me an example?
$LUSER: Just the setting that I save on the PC.

*headdesk*

This goes on for 10 minutes before I get her to give me an example. "Shortcuts I create aren't showing up again. Like shortcuts on the desktop."

Desktop is part of her roaming profile, so I reset her profile thinking something could be tweaked there and it's not saving correctly. I explain to her what I'm doing (big mistake) and she starts with "no no no, even on the computer I always use they don't show up." While that does tell me it's probably not an issue of her using a local profile instead of it loading her roaming profile, it's gigantically annoying to hear ten times in a row.

Luckily at 10 I have a user dropping off a tablet that refuses to autorotate. Boss expects this to take me most of the day (I disagree) but it gets me out of having to run out to help idiots.

Incidently, I'm running into that as well on the 4 tablets I've built an image for. I'm wondering just what I did wrong.

I just have not had the time to futz with it to figure it out, either.

Ah.

the four tablets we have are all Motion Computing LS800 units. the "rotate" button seems to have lost it's magic for some reason. :(

I'm sure it's an easy fix, I just need the time to futz with it... hmmm... I might have some of that time later this week... hmmmmm... *ponders*

"Just, the setting. The setting."

(Subtext: I shouldn't have to tell you my problem in an understandable way for you to fix it.)

OMFG. People like that where I work are then the ones that tell me how to fix "the setting", when they can't tell me WTF setting they're talking about in the first place.

There needs to be a universal memo sent to users to BE. MORE. SPECIFIC.

If I get another e-mail saying "My Blackboard isn't working. Please fix it as soon as possible." I am going to murder someone.

Deliver a new box of chalk to their room, along with a note stating that you will no longer be supporting non-computer resources.

Blackboard is our CMS, but I have often thought about sending chalk to users just to be funny.

Heheh. We use Bb at the university I attend. I'm primarily familiar with the student-facing bits, but I've had some contact with the faculty/staff-facing bits. I do not envy anybody that has to support it.

Oh, and when our entire Bb site goes down, that's pretty spectacular. I used to work in the computer labs, and the unofficial procedure for handling a Bb outage was to leave the office and be busy somewhere away from the labs. ;)

I had that exact problem where you work, I eventually figured out why nothing I did stayed the way I set them:

Yeah... lack of permissions writing to HKEY_CURRENT_USER would be a reason for that.

So, is that a--
wait, no, I'm not even going to hazard a guess as to what that is, because you'll laugh at me. So, I'll ask, how are you showing both FVWM and Win* things in the same screenshot?
