Jun. 12th, 2007 02:44 amok.
about how much memory is 2GB on a computer? that means absolutly nothing to me, haha.
also, how big is a 200GB hard drive? and what is a good sized hard drive?
give examples like how many files (music, photos, word documents) those amounts would hold.
and are MacBooks great?
thank you!

Date: 2007-06-12 07:02 am (UTC)200gb hard drive isn't that much- it will only hold a few albums' worth of music files. try to get at least three 200gb hard drives.

3) Id depends on how you fold them. A Space Bag will help.
4) They're not as good as beer, but better than reading the community info before asking a question.
I don't think the OP is joking...
Date: 2007-06-12 07:11 am (UTC)2) usually, a 200GB hard drive will be about 4 inches wide, between 5.5 and 6 inches long and about 1 inch tall. That is, about 10cm x 14.5cm x 1.25cm, give or take.
3) They don't hold any documents whatsoever, but they are designed to hold lots and lots of ordered patterns of magnetic field. These magnetic fields are used to represent what are called ‘bits’, each ‘bit’ being the amount of information to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. These ‘bits’ can be used to represent the information contained in a photograph, piece of music, or document. How many in files in a given size of memory? Sorry, I won'tbe able to answer that question until you provide me with the ANSI standard gold-plated piece of string, and then and only then will I be able to tell you how long it is.
Short answer: between one and many many many. Approximately.
4) I don't know. I work with computers.
Hope that helps. Have A Nice Day.

Date: 2007-06-12 09:35 am (UTC)200GB depends on how you define your zeroes.
200GB would in my world contain an infinitve amount of music, photos and word documents.
MacBooks are the greatest there is. I use at least 20 a day. Good strecth, holds a lot of fluid and flush easeliy.

3.25 or 2.5 inches wide, depending on desktop or laptop
give examples like how many files (music, photos, word documents) those amounts would hold.
How good are you at jenga, I can stack 6 photo albums on my hard drive.
and are MacBooks great?
Yes, yes they are.

2) 200BG HD is totally adequate, if all you do is use your computer as a paperweight. You should have at least 3TB, and a functional FTP server. And a broadband internet connection.
3) MACS ARE FOR TARDIES. I THINK THE OP QUALIFIES.

Date: 2007-06-12 01:29 pm (UTC)and are MacBooks great?
Yes, for certain very interesting values of "great". I hear Linux runs like a banshee on them, if you can get the right device drivers to use all the hardware. And even the OS that comes with them has some decent stuff in the core, including Apache and a usable (if somewhat older) version of PHP, although I have yet to get MySQL and phpMyAdmin running on the preinstalled versions.
Oh, that wasn't what you meant? Sorry, my bad .. :D

Date: 2007-06-12 01:36 pm (UTC)If you want to store more files on your computer, 200GB is just fine! Just put fridge magnets on the outside of the case. If you line them up right (so there's a few on each side, exactly opposite each other), it compresses the magnetic "bits" on the hard drive's discs and you can store up to TWICE as much data. If you put them on the top and bottom of your case, it changes the direction of the bits from horizontal to vertical, and since they're wide but thin, again you can store HEAPS more data!
I've been using this technique for years. The Hard Drive manufacturers don't want you to know coz they can't sell more discs if you can store more on the ones you have.
I know it's hard to believe, but seriously. I've been in IT for ten years and I use this technique on my home computers, EVEN THE ONE I'M USING NOW!!!

Date: 2007-06-12 02:44 pm (UTC)I had to explain to someone more than twice why sticking her pictures to the sides of the "the metal box thing next to her computer" screen with magnets was bad.
I'm going to go cry and whimper now... You're not supposed to traumatize us in posts like this! *whimper*

Date: 2007-06-12 02:40 pm (UTC)for the music, I have IKEA shelved. That will store several hundreds of discs
for photo, a shoe box seems to what people like, whilst not very appropriate for archival. I use myself metal boxes that are "archive grade"
Oh and Books are great. The older, the better.

Date: 2007-06-12 03:54 pm (UTC)B) A 200Gb HD is slightly larger than a business card and, if you remove the internal organs, will thus store about 120 business cards.
C) If you ask a PC person, macs are horrible, if you as a Mac person, MacBooks are fantastic.. kinda like if you ask a Ford person about GM vehicles, etc....
