That reminds me, I had a user trying to troubleshoot something... Apparently some transaction that would always fail at 9am. The guy asked me "Do you reboot your routers every morning?". I had to bite my lip to keep form bursting out laughing.

I can imagine this response from them! I figure there is a reason they have a room that is pretty far way from the rest of the offices and with concrete walls.
Last week I asked them if our new computers would have more memory than our current ones. The answer I got was, "If we can figure out how to install the memory they sent us."
I should add the conversation about the memory was had while the IT guy was studying the coffee pot, trying to figure out where to put the water in.

When I was doing software training/support for GI clinics, I could figure out most problems with their network, their software, their OS, the database...

But omigod, programming the damn fax machine invariably left me with a headache and wanting to hit something!!

Yeah, our fax machine/copier/piece of crap requires a special guy to come in just to fill the toner.
It also likes to randomly ring and make a screeching noise and even the toner guy doesn't have an answer to as why.

Heard that from a NOC I worked at a few years back... Actually now that I think about it I think I've heard that or some sort of stand in for those words at virtually every job I've had, most with similiar endings.

That would explain our never ending NOC issues! We get a call once a week, "Guys the NOC is updating, or fixing something, they won't tell us which one. Either way, don't provision VOIP for the next THREE DAYS!"

I have in my paper archive from when I worked at [isp] an escalation sheet. one of the top items is listed:

Complete outage: Datacenter is completely down due to generator failure and power failure, data line cut, or acts of [boss].

It's still amusing to this very day.

Urgh! Previous employer used to have a programmer who was known for running his own code and exclaiming things like, 'Wow! Never seen it do THAT before!' *facepalm* Thank you $diety, he was gone and merely the stuff of legend by the time I hired on.
