Dear Dell;

Now, I know that my company loves you dearly. We have a fuckton of your servers, and all of our desktop and laptops are yours.

But for dogs sake, can y'all use a little more intellegence on the next revision of the GX620 chassis? that rear catch that holds down the optical drive and keeps it from flopping around in the chassis like a landed fish does not do the job very well unless on makes certain modifications involving a pair of pliars. Seriously. The poor user thought he had a B52 spooling up on his desktop from the noise the rattling was producing.

Love,

Me.

(I shit you not. The ticket I got said and I do quote: "Went and checked as loud as a B-52 spooling up..." )

Is that what that was?! My college campus had that same problem in our computer labs.

I spent months troubleshooting different parts of those damn computers with Dell support. We ordered 88 of them, and upon first boot, 5 of them "sounded like an airplane taking off."

We took care of those five by saying "WTF Dell?" but within the next two months, after we'd installed them around campus, people would periodically report the problem and we'd have to deal with it. It was frequently intermittent, so it was a pain in the ass to troubleshoot and usually was resolved by dissassembling and reassembling the computer with a new fan and/or motherboard.

Note: I was just the work study student who learned everything I knew from working in the department for three years. My job? Troubleshoot as far as I can, then call Dell.
