For those times when a plain call center in India, or the "supervisor" (next person down the cube farm) doesn't give you Tech Support Satisfaction....

Gawd, but you've gotta love belt-fed.

Can you fix that link? It looks like it's infected with flash.

They are kinda strange with their internet filters, all things considered.

Nope. Apparently Youtube qualifies as "Adult" on it's filter.. ::rolls eyes::

The high bandwidth, I can definately agree with.

is it sonicwall? their filters are WAY too broad. I barely use any of them. i just use the hate, intolerance, illegal gambling and porn sites and hand filter the rest. But their porn means outright porn. Anyhting like you tube is under something like mature content.
From: [identity profile] manuka.livejournal.com
Well, it's really broad if you get the standard content filtering. The premium content filtering gets you a lot more categories, but you still don't have a whole lot of control over what's in there.

Hell, our cleaning supplies vendor was categorized as "weapons", and a vestments supplier was listed under "cult/occult".

Sonicwall has 2 categories under the standard set: Category 4, which is blatant pr0n, and Category 6 which is "Mature/Adult content" - the latter includes things like youtube and myspace.

I'd love to use something like websense (which the Sonicwall or its predecessor in our network, the PIX515, can use), but websense is megabucks.

The trick with sonicwall is not being afraid to leave some of those options unchecked. if you use it whole hog you're really biting yourself in the ass. I tried to fix a computer problem the other day and I was blocked due to adult content ads on the site. I had to change the settings, go to the site, then change them back. No fun.

I dont know the filter system used, but a friend of mine submitted a complaint this week due to Wikipedia suddenly being filed and blocked as pornography.
From: [identity profile] manuka.livejournal.com
Well, we're a church - so aggressive filtering is the preferable MO. They'd prefer it to be a little to trigger-happy than not enough. It's not like we're playing network cop, we're just blocking it and suggesting that this might not be a good page to go to. We use the entire gateway security suite on the SonicWall, so it filters a lot of spyware at the gate too.

well sure! Just ask the TSA!

It's not that, it's a different vendor.

Granted, we have other sites that are blocked as well, like the local gun mail order company. If I'm doing reasearch on stuff, I'll use google and their cache because it's not blocked, plus it helps me filter out the blatently obvious crapola. (also it's because we are forced to use IE and we have strict rules about bringing in software.)
