Obnoxious users who bring their undisciplined offspring to work.

I've had to RMA her laptop's keyboard twice because her two demonspawn destroyed it.  I cannot bear to go into that office when they're there -- 90dB screaming, throwing papers and sh¡t about (usually at me or one of her machines), running around the entire building -- all the while the extent of the discipline is little more than "Be nice, you two".

Of course, you can't tell them to sit down and shut up or else she goes off and complains to whomever will give her two seconds.

She's no treat to support either, but that's a rant I've been saving up for a special occasion.

Do any of you have to put up with destructive rugrats at your workplace?

Onion article that's very appropriate. (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/49603)

I sure as hell hope not- my workplace is largely an 18+ only type of job. I'm sure that we've gotten minors in the back of the house from time to time, though.

It's a casino. Obviously, to protect both my paycheck and the interests of my masters, I can't say which one.

The Glare usually works - if not on the noisy rugrats, then on the parent. Occasionally accompanied by "Are _these_ yours?" and "Does this workplace look like a daycare to you?"

Of course, the last kid we had in the place was a newborn. In the twenty minutes it was there, we stuck it in front of a keyboard, put a headset on it, took a photo of the usual incredulous baby expression and put it up on the TS staff intranet page with a photoshopped thought bubble saying "What do you mean you can't find the Start button?"

...we were bored :)

I used to take my daughter in to work. But then she learned to crawl and get out of the carrier. Time for pre-school!

WTF, kids allowed at work? That would never have happened anywhere I worked.

Unless it was management. Was that it?

Then they need to cause a "meltdown." It's that exact attitude why so many faculty act like spoiled children. Everyone is so worried about losing a professor who looks good in rankings, but in reality can't teach worth a damn and cause problems left and right. No wonder their kids are just as bad.

Can you tell I also work for a university

The one professor at my school who brought in her toddler had her office partitioned off for child and nanny on one side and computer/students on the other. Sometimes, while listening in on student conferences, it sounded like they should be on the nanny side but that's just my opinion.

Wow, I really sympathize. I can't imagine having the balls to do that. I haven't brought my kid to my current workplace, although I've been told he'd be welcome for a visit. If I did, it would be near the end of the day, and if he freaked out, we would LEAVE. Pretty easy! :) It's sad that not everyone thinks of others.
