Jen! Jen! I need to talk to you right now! I need help!!

Sorry I can't help you without a ticket.

No NO !! I need you now! I need you to fix my computer

Look go call in a ticket. I am not allowed to do any work without one.

(in my head I was saying, Look you stupid bitch... You are mean, nasty and only talk to me when you need help and even then you are bitchy really really bad. I am not only not going to help you, I am not going to help you today. Oh look, you are running to your supervisor to see if he can bully me into helping you. Guess what, his 400lb ass stole a printer we were looking for for weeks! He didn't even fess up when we gave the option to people. He will not be backing your pathetic ass up and ask me to work on your pc right now. Plus there are these things called policies and procedures. Try following them and call in a damn ticket!!)

Was this the one who couldn't turn on the computer? Or was that somebody else (meaning another person, or another community member)?

Yeah, I get the same thing where I work. I usually argue with them for a bit then say,
"You know, if you had just called the helpdesk, the ticket would be open by now. And you still need to call the helpdesk because I can't help you without a ticket."

If/when they get crabby at me, I just inform them that about 50% of my group got laid off. We can no longer do support without a paper trail to show to the phb's, so they know that we actually do work all day.

It'd be funny if I asked them to violate some procedure to do me a favor. I can just see the looks on their sheep-like faces now :)

It all comes down to attitude. I stayed on the line for an hour and a half today helping someone reinstall 2K because she was friendly and respectful. On the other hand, there was a guy the other day I wouldn't spend an extra 30 seconds on telling how to fix Blaster because he was so rude. The job sets only the minimum amount we can help. Any more than that is a favour...
