7 years...
Aug. 3rd, 2006 04:35 am7 years today. Okay, technically yesterday at this point of the night. I have been working here on the support phones for 7 years (disregarding a few weeks of training). I can't believe it's really been that long. I think I went numb and past the point of burn out long ago. There are certainly worse jobs out there. Particularly on 3rd shift, things are pretty lax around here and we actually get a fair bit of free time so I guess I really can't complain too much. And I get 4 wks of vacation next year. The company is generous with that. Yay!
A few of the funniest things I've seen.
A tech on the way out set up a message rule to forward the message out to the whole floor. Of course everyone starts replying and everything goes back out to the floor.
Once had a customer call me because the CDs kept falling out of her CDROM drive. System was a desktop chassis. I had her turn the system over.
Two techs for whatever reason set up a rule to auto reply to each other, I believe with some sort of largish attachment. I'm sure you can guess what happened the first time one sent the other a message. It quickly escalated and brought down the entire mail server for some time. They are no longer employed here.
One of my most memorable customers I worked with for weeks. She was convinced her computer was possessed. She claimed it was doing all sort of things I knew should be impossible. Finally near the end, she sent me in a video tape to show me the kind of stuff it was doing. She was messing around in the bios, I think there was some sort of linux involved. I don't know WHAT she was doing. Unfortunately I didn't get to see that video, it was given to the L2s and I only got to see a couple of minutes of it and never the whole thing. Though as I understand it, copies were made. I need to hit a couple of them up to see if I can get a copy.

Date: 2006-08-03 11:59 am (UTC)Funny thing? When I signed on, the building we were in got all the second-hand furniture, cubicle walls, ceiling tiles etc, because we were in "temporary lodgings" and were gonna be shifted elsewhere Real Soon. By the time I left, we still couldn't get any renovation budget because of still being in those very same "temporary lodgings".
