Open apology to the community
Aug. 3rd, 2006 03:29 amI'd like to take a few moments of the community's time to try and smooth some of the feathers ruffled by my previous post, requesting the removal of
fiannnachruinne's post. I'm not ordinarily a person who likes to make excuses for my actions, but I am one who likes to illustrate the reasons for them, so my reasons and full apology follow below. For those of you who don't care or would rather not see it, feel free to skip .
As is probably apparent from my last dozen or so posts to the community, I've spent the last year and change in a helpdesk position that was run very well for the most of the time, and then very abruptly went to hell in the past month. The change is drastic enough that on any list of common stress-related medical symptoms, I can probably claim half or more. (The last one I checked I scored 9 of 13; a followup list of burnout symptoms scored a perfect 10/10. This is not a good thing.)
One of these symptoms is shortness of temper and irritibility. This morning, I woke up and prepared for work and had a few extra minutes, so I logged into LJ and sat down to read. Between the combination of half-asleep and cranky, I was instantly incensed by the post which said simply something to the effect of, "A message to hackers" and contained a link to a personal LJ with no apparent relevance to tech support. I further compounded the issue by taking as a given a comment which I saw that said the poster had never posted in this community before; this turned out to be false and my lack of bothering to research it is quite frankly inexcusable.
Following the grandest traditions of passive-agression, I wrote the most polite set of words I could think of that equated to "God, is this person dumb or what? Please him the hell out of here." I then departed for work.
By the time I got home from work, I was fairly regretting having posted at all. Once
fiannnachruinne reposted, this time allowing comments and explaining the relevance to the community, it became very clear to me that I was in the wrong. I considered deleting my post, but I've seen post deletions cause as much flaming... and more... as they end, so I decided perhaps this was a better way to resolve it.
fiannnachruinne, I offer you my full and sincere apology. I harbor no ill will towards you and regret having made my post. If there is anything I can do to further make restitution to you, or to welcome you into the community, please do not hesitate to let me know.
My intention is to avoid posting anything of import until I've finished out this stressful position tomorrrow, and taken a three-day weekend to relax, at that point hopefully having come more into possession of basic mental faculties like... oh... sanity.
Thank you for your patience in reading this,
Kiz.
