People adore wasting my time.

Rep has problem. Rep starts rebooting laptop. Rep calls helpdesk while waiting. Helpdesk can't have her do anything until laptop finishes rebooting. Laptop finishes rebooting. Issue has been resolved by reboot.

Rep called helpdesk for what reason, exactly?

Jesus fucking christ. If you know enough to reboot the laptop, then can you AT LEAST FUCKING WAIT FOR IT TO FINISH REBOOTING?

On the plus side, I've finally got a new position lined up... contingent upon me learning SQL. SQL is easy. SQL is very boring. I now need to learn every trick in the world to force oneself to maintain focus for long enough that I can pick up enough SQL to be useful on the job.

Good db planning skills with SQL, will make you shine. Too many fools just want to start coding without thinking things through. Gah!

Regarding the reboot and calling you in the process:

Rep was making it clear that you have nothing better to do with your time than wait on other people's problems which don't actually exist.

Or, to put it more succinctly: Rep was illustrating to you exactly how much more important his/her time is than yours.

that's worse than some of our BUSINESS clients (not LUSERS) wanting us to stay late while they install one of our products after hours on their servers JUST IN CASE something goes wrong. Obviously, they don't know how overtime works.
