A user called me on my lunch hour and told me her computer was "turning blue". I told her to get it to fresh air and start providing mouth-to-mouse resuscitation. I think I heard her glare at me over the phone.

Edit: I told my boss about that one.. He chuckled, grabbed his mouse, and did a re-enactment of Scotty and the Mac, saying "computer?" into his mouse.

That's what it turned out to be, she had an old-ass Hateway CRT that was dying. I give her an LCD and she starts complaining that the fonts are too small and the "image is curved".

Um, no, lady, that image is dead on flat and square. You've been staring at that curved CRT for so long that you think your panel curves inward.

I've learned not to tell people over the phone to "turn the computer off and back on", because inevitably, they powercycle the monitor *headdesk*. ("Oh, you meant the hard drive?" *headdesk again*)

I still don't understand people that like to run their LCDs in non-native resolutions, especially 800x600.

We ran into that at my last place, and we ended up taking away her shiny new 17" DVI rotating LCD panel of goodness and plopping a 21" tube on her desk.

THen she complained that her monitor was taking up too much space, all because the Boss didn't want us to let the users put non-native resolutions on the LCD panels... ::rolls eyes::

I'm sorry, if you're not going to run in native resolution, you don't deserve an LCD Panel of Goodness, even if it doesn't rotate or have DVI or isn't shiny.

The irony is the people who complain about the fonts being too small never complain about the picture being fuzzy in non-native.

Part of the problem is that Windows doesn't deal well with anything other than the standard resolution. I've heard that Vista actually goes to a DPI model (like the mac has been doing since Day 1), where picture is constant size, DPI changes and it adjusts accordingly.

Not to mention, if she were DUMB enough to hook up a defib machine to a computer the charge'd probably throw her a good 15 feet across the room...at least. >:D
