i got it an iMac Bondi 233MHz, 32 Ram, 4 GB Hard Disk. (Rev. A) in the shop.

I have turned on came up informing me that I didn't have an OS installed in the computer.

I got my OS9 CD, booted up holding C key and the OS 9 started beautifully until I went to install it.

I couldn't install it because the firmware on the computer was outdated.

The hard disk is totally empty, I've tried to copy the OS9 operating system to the hard disk and boot that way, it didn't work, I've tried to install from the copied version in the hard disk, it didn't work either.

I bought OS8 CD, but I can't boot from it.

I tried to install a firmware by downloading from another computer, burning into a CD, booting the computer on OS9 from the CD, changing the CD and trying that way. It didn't work.

This computer is seriously getting on my nerves.

None of these worked. I'm spent. anyone else have any ideas?

iirc, you need os8.5 or 8.6 to boot the imacs. it's been forever since I did mac support though, so i may be off by a 1/10th or so.

OS 9 should work on that machine...

hrmmmm... I know it sounds stoopid, but did you try zapping the PRAM? Command-Option-P-R at startup, and let the machine reboot several times.

Alternately, try booting from the OS 9 cd again and navigate to the Utilities folder and launch the disk utility. It has reformatting as well as update firmware options. Try that, then try to install. Good luck, and if none of that works, message back and I'll try to think of something else.

Also, you know what really sucks? NT 4 really sucks...

Well, I was going to give my reply, but it looks like [livejournal.com profile] cksample3 took my course of action.

In my experience, all Macs are a problem. =)
