I got a call this morning from a woman..

Me: _________ this is Paul, how can I help you?
Woman: I have People PC and I was wondering if I could cancel it. How would I go about doing that?
(long pause, thinking that she has just or would like to switch over to us)
Me: I'm sorry I can't help you with that. You're going to have to contact People PC.
Woman: Can I get the number.
Me: I'm sorry I don't have that information. If you go to their website you'll be able to get the number.
Woman: Could you call for me?
Me: I'm sorry I can't do that. They need your personal information.
Woman: Well I can't get online with either ISP.
Me: Are we your ISP?
Woman: No

That was the jist of the conversation.. I'm done for the day now.

So...she'll call a completely unrelated place, but won't call the actual place that can help her? Come ON!!! Idiot!

Maybe she already called PeoplePC and got the runaround... ?

I have a friend who used to work at a PeoplePC call center, and he tells me that PeoplePC's policy (at least at the time) was to do just about anything to prevent someone from cancelling an account, including phone tag, etc.

From now on, whenever I need to order a pizza, I'm going to dial a random number. Maybe they'll be able to order it for me?

I had a woman call me at home one evening so I could give a message to Holly.

I did not know a Holly.

The thing was, Holly happened to have the same last name as me, and lived in vaguely the same area of the city I lived in, so obviously the woman was fully justified in throwing the biggest temper tantrum I'd heard in ages over the fact that I would not, in fact, pass that message on to Holly.

On a more related note, when I was a rep for an orange cell phone company, I did have a LOT of customers call in about third party charges, blow a gasket about having to actually call the actual company who charged them because they didn't have the time to waste, and then insist on calling *my* company back "every day until YOU FIX THIS!"

People are not smart.

Oh, sorry about that. Holly's a friend of mine. Just emailed her in fact. Just as well screaming woman didn't get hold of Holly. Holly's pretty cool and laid back and shouldn't have to put up with such people.
