Oh My Mother Earth!! I remember when I started taking cable calls, I thought internet and AOL users were dumb...

That's not an urban legend, it happened here two days ago. At my old place of work it happened regularly. People are that stupid.

I live in Florida, there is lots of lightning here. There are lots of power outages here. That "urban legend" has happened to me more than once.

I've come to the conclusion that in tech support, there are no urban legends.

Tech support should always be divided into three levels. Tech support, toad support and 'tard support. New users get Toad level unless they prove themselves competent (and get diverted to Tech) or gibbering idiots (Tard level). In the Tard level support go all the so-called 'techs' who couldn't tech their way out of a wet paper bag.

Match the solution to the problem, I say.

As a BOFH, I'd recommend they stick the other end of that power cord in their mouths "to improve the conductivity" of the cord. ::cackle::

But then, I'm in favor of adding chlorine to the gene pool, and requiring a license or a test in order to breed... (which is rather unpopular anymore...)

Being short staffed should be the default state for the Tard level, with any luck.

I remember those calls. Got 'em once or twice every day.

Even had to tell one person that the master remote (The one provided with the cable box) would bite them if they didn't put it down in the kitchen, so they'd turn the TV on *AT* the TV itself.
