Hi Folks...

After quite an while, i finally have some time again to read and post *sighs*
stressted months....

Iam now sitting in an new department, an new country, new co-workers...
i dont know if this is NORMAL here.. (iam sitting in slowakia now, just a few miles east from austria (where i now live again))

i mean... all my co-workers are at LEAST 22 years old (the youngest) goes up to 35 years.
what do they have in common ? (ok, beside working in this department ?)
ok, how should you guess, they are ... i cant find the right word for it. CHILDISH wouldnt fit exactly. babyish maybe... no.. still not.

There are two calls in the ACD waiting to be picked,
3 of the co-workers are standing around chatting and joking around.
2 are checking some comics or other website (ebay, gmx)
2 are playing with plasticine, they look at the ACD and call (in slowak) "dwa calli, dwa calli! eyey dwa calli! dwa calli!" *growls*
1 has to comment each mail he reads and deletes with, "hurraaayy!"
our "Team-Leader debuty" (he also plays with plasticine) surfs the web the whole time and phones with his wife.
another one has to comment each call he takes with (also in slowak, just translated so you know what its about), "Oh... Customer has problem ?? AWWWWWWWWWW!!! really ? AWWWWWWWWW!! need replacement ? AWWWWWWWWWW.. AWWWWWWWW! that so sad, AWWWWWWWWWWWW!" *claws the desk*

GOSH!!! can ANYONE PLEASE just SHOOT ME!?
*headdesk*
i mean, they are GROWN UPS! iam not the kind of 100% serious type myself, i love to joke around sometimes and do stupid, childisch or other crazy things, ok... but there ARE borders! when iam at WORK, iam beeing pay to DO that work! not do make fun out of everything and everyone *growls angrily*

(and i thought our CUSTOMERS are annoying)

a job's a job, but everyone needs to vent. hence, this group.

The playing around isn't so much of a problem, it's when the screwing about gets in the way of doing a good job.

Likewise, with the best techsupport you'll notice that there will ALWAYS be a little fun and creativity at some point. The best way to kill a great support team is to hammer them with so much work that they never have time to decompress. Sure, they're ripping through ten times the work that a bog-standard phone monkey might do in the same period, but without that play time they won't be sticking around to pass their knowledge on.

I'm with you here. Our NOC doesn't have anyone over the age of 30 working there right now and it's sometimes a free-for-all, but we're polite enough to not yell when someone is on the phone and we wait until nobody can hear us call a customer a stupid fucking rat-faced moron.

Indeed. There's something hugely satisfying about being able to communicate that exact same epithet to a colleague with the merest twitch of an eyebrow or lack of tone. More... elegant, possibly.

It's also a sign of experience when you can be saying one thing on the phone and making all the right noises, typing up a log with a slightly different variation, posting what you REALLY think on an internal IRC channel or LJ, and putting all this across to your supervisor with just one second of eye contact - at the same time.

Bonus points if you're also answering email, sketching network diagrams, and navigating IVR functions on another line while the caller is talking.

I try and live by the motto : "It's never to late to have a happy childhood".

*grin*

However lately work has just been WORK WORK WORK.

sigh.

If I was you, I'd pick up every single call I possibly could, if they're sitting in your queue. See what happens to the end of month stats then! If they see [livejournal.com profile] lions_tambua = 150 resolved calls; Total_everyone_else = 100 calls, well, it could be an interesting month...

(of course, then they'd all hate you - but I would certainly grab at least a few more calls than anyone else, just to make the point)
