L: There's a problem with the PCs you have been imaging for us!
M: ....OK?
L: Yes! They don't have all the software they are meant to have!
M: OK, sure, no problem. What is missing?
L: ....
M: .....?
L: Don't know...
M: OK... who does?
L: The girl who left in February.
M: ... do you have a list of what is supposed to be installed?
L: .... no
M: (please hand me a titanium Spork Of Doom (TM)) so, I will have to speak with (colleague) who is out of the office until Monday, ask if he has any ideas.
L: ... *deer in headlights expression*
M: Unless you know if there's a stack of install CDs somewhere?
L: .... I don't know... I will try and find the diskettes...
M: (1988 called, they want their install media back!)

Oy! TGIF!

Stupid question: if he doesn't know what is supposed to be installed, how does he know something is missing?

Rule #1 of techsupport:
Never question the lusers. It will only irritate the lusers and confuse you further.

Well, next time, please remember to include *ALL* details of the situation so that this can be avoided in the future.

And make sure more than one person knows the full details of a situation, or, at least, has it written down in an easily accessable place. Easily accessable to someone that won't be leaving anytime soon, that is.

Might I suggest the Janitor? ;-)

Geez, we used to get those kind of calls on the NMCI system all the time. No matter what we told them with regards to imaging, they couldn't *quite* understand there were no CDs involved.

There's nothing quite as much fun as listening to a sailor explain he knows that there has to be installation disks *somewhere* because he installs a lot of games on his home PC.
