One of the joys of IT here in Qatar is that we have *one* Apple dealer in the entire country. Though, considering how old their stock is, "Apple Museum" may be a lot closer to accurate. They're also the local repair centre. They're also slow, expensive, and a bloody pain the arse to deal with.

Now IT where I work boasts two certified Apple Repair Technicians, myself included. However, we're not employed as such, and are limited to the usual user-servicable repairs. Joy unending.

Recently we had to send a G4 tower out to get repaired. A repair that could have been done in 20 minutes had we had the parts and were certified as a repair centre. We're not, so three weeks later, it was back.

While bench testing it, I noticed that the dealer's repair centre had placed a "do not remove" warranty tag on the back of the machine, with the invoice number and date.

And placed it directly over the exhaust holes on the back of the case. Which means all that lovely hot air in the case didn't have a route out of said case.

*faceplant* It's not like they NEED to drum up business, they're the only game in town.......

Hey, working in the Middle East would be fascinating. However....there's only one Apple dealer in Qatar - are you in Doha, or outside of it? I can understand it's a small country, but there's no other dealerships that might be able to aid you in Abu Dhabi/Dubai? Maybe possibly Muscat or Manama? Or doesn't it quite work like that? :)

let the label get nice and warm from all that air, and using a raxor blade carefully peel the sucker up. after removal, put the bugger somewhere else.

if they even notice it next time, it'd be a miracle.

Steam works well, too. Envelopes can be opened by holding them over the steam coming from a boiling tea-kettle, and re-sealed later.

Umm... I didn't say that.

The first time I bought a PC without going through a friend in the industry, I made sure the vendor knew I'd be opening it up. Fine, they said.

Next day I was on the phone to them complaining that they fitted a CD-ROM instead of a DVD-ROM even they charged me for the DVD.

"No no no, you just need to install the right software." they said.

"It's a CD. I opened the case and read the part number off the drive." I said.

When I picked the PC up again after work the next day, there was a shiny gold sticker with OPENING VOIDS WARRANTY printed on it across every seam...
