Sorry, got distracted. *rubs eyes*

This should be in [livejournal.com profile] tech_support, not here.

It's because you're using a windows computer, not a mac, which has a far better designed keyboard.

On the Macs make better keyboards - YES! And better everything. That is all, sorry.

What I can't figure out is why all these silly PC and Mac keyboards have a caps lock key where the control key should be...

Luckily xmodmap can fix that kind of silliness.

OMG, you look at the keyboard?

In that position in the icon, I don't think she ever rly looks at the keyboard.

From: [identity profile] methedras.livejournal.com
It's because you keep bending over and looking away from the keyboard. Turn around, and you should be fine.

For some reason I just don't think this discussion is complete without a picture of the infamous Space Cadet keyboard (http://catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/S/space-cadet-keyboard.html):

You'd think that whoever made the jpg would have been such a geek they could have got the compression optimised enough so you could make out what's on the non-letter keys! It's not even a particularly small file (in size).

Oh well.

I've seen keyboards where the caps lock light is not in the top right. Example #1: my current laptop has it just below the screen and just right of middle. #2: an older laptop has it in a bank of lights above F1-F4. #3: ye olde Acorns had it in the caps lock key.

They used to have caps locks on the actual key itself... at least, I seem to remember something like that happening sometime in the distant past...?

Date: 2006-04-27 01:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bamatone.livejournal.com
Yeah, that was my first thought too. I flashed back to seeing a little green light on the caps lock key itself.

Um, sorry, OP - if you want a bunch of geekboys to come up with coherent answers, it helps if you pick the right community and do not choose an icon which causes their eyes and brain to fall out of their heads, thus rendering them useless.

Us geekgirls, on the other hand, will just tend to go *yawn*. Which is also pretty useless in its own way.

Amazing, isn't it? A geek posts a legitimate question and gets flambe'd. A sock puppet windup account posts crap and gets petted purely for having an ass icon.

OK. #1 : If you currently do not have a driver's license, I suddenly suspect I know why. It's called "Your eyes need to scan the environment". This is true of hunt and peck typing as well.

#2 : With grammar like that, I'm sure no one will really notice your occasional "screaming fits". It will fit in perfectly with the rest of the image you appear to be trying to achieve juuuust fine. Just replace a few letters with numbers, overdo the exclamation marks and net shorthand, and you'll fit in just fine as a Myspacer. If anyone asks, just say you upgraded from AOL, and they'll nod in understanding.

#3 : With the REST of the image you're trying to project on-line, do you really and honestly think anyone is going to notice random capslocking? I mean, let's do a reality check here. Your target audience is males aged 16-21, preferably with an IQ low enough to believe you're not a 14 year old guy out of Ohio who's deeply troubled by the dreams of men he has at night. You know, the kind of people who give the rest of the internet a collective migraine.
