Right, so I had this lady call in today? The limit on outgoing attactments in email is 2MB, and Charlie, one of the other techs, had JUST SPENT about 20 minutes explaining this to her because her file was just over the limit. And so she calls back, gets me and asks 'if I split the file in two and attached them to the email, would it go through?" - hoping that since the FILES were under 2MB, it'd go. -_-;

2MB? Stingy.

Normal from my experience. I think we're at 5, but even then we have things bounce back as undeliverable because the recieving mailserver limits to 1-2MB.

Gmail only does 10MB.

Agreed, but I run a 10MB limit on our Exchange server here. We've got a staff of about 30 and I've rarely heard a complaint.

I'm sure that many people have been trying to send 10, 50, 300MB attachments and failing, but they're unlikely to complain because 10MB is perceived as being a reasonable limit, whereas I think 2MB most likely would not.

IMHO there's a critical point between the two, but you may disagree if you like.

Horses for courses. If you're just sending documents like pdfs or docs it's fine, but I send wavs for recording/demoing, rough cuts of video clips and other assorted stuff for my band that eats up space.

That said, the ISP I work for only offers 10MB *inboxes* to its residential customers. Now that's stingy.

Shit, doesnt winzip do multiple file spanning these days? I remember I used to span across a few floppies, rename it disk_1 disk_2 etc and mail 'em that way. Snuck right through military email filters (not that they really try all that hard).

Best use of that icon I've seen in a long time.
