Incredible Incredimail in Israel
Apr. 22nd, 2006 09:19 pmI'm confused as to what this comment had to do today with troubleshooting AVG blocking Incredimail.
First, to start off the issue, the customer did not want to cooperate with shutting down her AVG to figure out if it was blocking the email program, Incredimail and said "It's worked PERFECTLY until now. I'm NOT shutting that down!"
Then when I asked which program she was not receiving email on (webmail or an email program), she stated to me:
"I use ONLY Incredimail which is an Israeli company."
"So?" [/me cracking gum and saying that in a Valley Girl voice] "What does the Israeli company comment have to do with the fact that you are not getting your emails?"

Date: 2006-04-23 01:59 am (UTC)the fact that it does not play nicely with some older versions of Panda antivirus (in fact, it caused the machine to BSOD) earns it a place on "programs I recommend by customers avoid" list.
My $0.02.

Date: 2006-04-23 03:11 am (UTC)Incredimail is always followed by, "I want to send emails with pretty colors and letters and pictures."
the colors and the pictures do not cover up that all they are doing is forwarding crap.
pretty colors and letters and pictures

Date: 2006-04-23 03:14 am (UTC)That actually almost got me in trouble with the IT and HR department, because I had one user who INSISTED on using it, despite me telling her not to, and removeing it.
the second time, I didn't bother with the data recovery, because she was using both Outlook and Incredimail. As a result, she did end up losing a few emails that Incredimail got before outlook did. She got the clue that time. SHe also lose her local Admin rights. :)
use Outlook Express

sorry I wasn't logged in
Date: 2006-04-23 02:07 pm (UTC)Not our problem -- we give email settings - that's it. If her machine is screwed up she needs to contact Her Israeli company for help or AVG to assist in configuration.
Re: sorry I wasn't logged in
Date: 2006-04-23 04:12 pm (UTC)Refer to Vendor - that's like the holy grail
Re: sorry I wasn't logged in
Date: 2006-04-23 10:23 pm (UTC)"Oh it's not our software...bye bye!"
Usually I will be nice and email them links for support to the software...but that's as far as I go.
Re: sorry I wasn't logged in
Date: 2006-04-23 10:31 pm (UTC)Customer: How do I get $software to work?
Me: [scrambling to find notes] First you'll need to reboot, sir.
Customer: Oh, okay. Be right back, don't go anywhere! [hangs up]
Me: [stops looking for notes] Ah, my favourite trick
:)

Date: 2006-04-24 08:42 pm (UTC)As to email - I prefer to use a client that doesn't run binaries or anything else sent in email. I'm funny that way.

Oh well...sucks to be you. =D

Date: 2006-04-23 12:02 pm (UTC)Far too many is the time that I've refered people to Norton's, and a handful of times to McAfee (Which the company I support offers for free.).
I have no problems telling people it's unsupported. The Anti-Virus is Unsupported, the E-Mail Program is Unsupported, *EVERYTHING* on that call, unsupported.
You want to play with your own programs, congrats, you get to play with them. All on your own. Enjoy!
You want help, use the common, bug-filled, easily hacked, POS stuff that came with the computer.
Mainly, I say that, because I got out of Tier 1 so I wouldn't have to deal with issues like this any longer. :-P

Date: 2006-04-23 01:00 pm (UTC)Every now and then I'll get a phonecall from my ex-husband.
"Hey, did you get my email about such-and-such?"
"Nope. Were you using Incredimail again?"
"Well, yeah, but-"
"Well don't. Use Thunderbird instead, then I might read your emails, kthnxbye" *click*
Of course, he downloads so much crap that his system is riddled with spyware, inevitably it crashes, he reinstalls Windows and it takes him a while to get around to reinstalling Incredimail - until he just can't withstand the withdrawal symptoms from all those crappy flashing, moving emoticons. And all his emails end up in the Junk folder again.
In my experience, the worst offenders also use text-speak - and not just on their mobiles.
