entitlement crybabies
Mar. 22nd, 2006 10:27 amI can't make this stuff up...
"Equipment in room *** is dirty & user wants them cleaned or replaced. They are complaining a computer is too slow and they have a note on it."
And apparently this isn't even one of OUR contract's machines!
*boggle*
Like tech support is supposed to come out and replace a computer because it's dusty? or has fingerprints on it?
*headdesk*

Date: 2006-03-22 06:59 pm (UTC)Unfortunately the cunts here are too tight to fork for them, so they get zipties. And more often than not I end up having to free a bored technician from them on graveyard shift...

Date: 2006-03-22 04:03 pm (UTC)The user called me back. According to HER, the machines came from US to them that way ("filthy!" & "unusable" according to her & her manager) and she's trying to set up a training room. SHE can't be bothered to clean them. "We have enough to do to set up this training for all the people coming in from the other locations!"
Mind you, she can't be bothered to give me a SINGLE property tag number so we can verify that the machines actually DID come from us.
*sigh*
If they DID get delivered from us as ostensibly "new" machines, then yeah, we should have at least swabbed 'em down. But if the training group got 'em out of the warehouse as excess or refurbished equipment - Not Our Problem.
See your bill of sale, Ma'am - I'd be willing to bet heavy bread that somewhere on it are two key words - AS IS. Just because the machine has an old property tag & may have BEEN under our care at one point, doesn't mean it still is under our care.
*double sigh*

Date: 2006-03-22 04:15 pm (UTC)I do quarterly backups of all our computers (it saves me headaches later.. long story) and while I sit at each computer, grabbing everything that they possibly need to save (the concept of keeping it in one neat folder eludes them constantly), I clean the mouse and keyboard and screen of each computer.
In honesty? We have people that are outside working constantly and teaching kids, and the damned things get gross. Plus, it also keeps the equipment working longer too. I hate replacing mice and keyboards when I don't have to.
You should have seen the look on their faces when I took apart my keyboard and gave it a bath (minus the boards mind you). That REALLY freaked them out.
Re: Eghads
Date: 2006-03-22 04:22 pm (UTC)However, this is specifically a call JUST to clean the computer cases because they look bad. Which the user (who is setting up the room anyway) could take care of herself. I'm supposed to send a hardware tech off-site to the training center to spray 409?

Date: 2006-03-22 04:45 pm (UTC)Didn't mean to snark at you - it's just that I've got 1.5 hardware techs (three actual bodies but one's doing upgrades & another's mostly printers) for several thousand seats.
and the users want US to do their housekeeping?
*sigh*
I'm just in a really bad mood, I guess.
Re: Eghads
Date: 2006-03-22 04:53 pm (UTC)Rightfully so.
However, I am not so sure I would instruct them to clean it either, they are likely to spray the windex directly into the machine and keyboard. Then that would be disaterous.
Re: Eghads
Date: 2006-03-22 04:25 pm (UTC)I used to do it as well. But one day everyone took it for granted that I had to clean EVERY computer in the company because it was my job. Barely escaped it.
Beware.

Date: 2006-03-22 05:01 pm (UTC)I guess I just dislike the idea itself. I do not mind to clean a computer a bit while I am repairing it or just trying to figure out the problem. I do mind when someone orders me to do it.
I guess I am just not so invaluable :)
